Drag and Drop
In the Flexible Table app, you can drag and drop items in the table to move them between groups.
When moving a work item across groups, certain conditions and restrictions apply, and edit permissions are required for any data changes to take effect.
You can’t drag and drop columns when sorting is enabled.
To drag and drop item
Login to your Jira Cloud site.
Select the project managed by the Flexible Table app, as described in the Getting Started section.
The table view of the Flexible Table app will appear.
Hover over the left side of the Key column for the work you want to drag. A drag icon will appear as shown in the image below.
Drag the work and drop it at the desired location.
Check that the work has moved to the correct group.
How it works
Dragging and dropping work between groups results in changes to the field values for those works.
If the selected work has a hierarchy (e.g., sub-tasks), the entire structure is moved together.
Availability of movement and data updates depends on the work type and group option.
Epic Group
Condition | Work Movement | Data Change |
|---|---|---|
Standard work with child work → Epic group | O | O (Epic link updated for parent only) |
Standard work without child work → Epic group | O | O (Epic link updated) |
Sub-task → Epic group | X | X |
work type not allowed under Epic | X | X |
Non-group ↔ Epic Group
Condition | Work Movement | Data Change |
|---|---|---|
Epic group → Non-group (with child work) | O | O (Epic link removed from parent only) |
Non-group → Epic group (with child work) | O | O (Epic link added to parent only) |
Status Group
Status values depend on the workflow configured for each work type.
Drag and drop is only allowed between valid statuses for that work type.
A Non-group does not exist because status is a required field.
Condition | Work Movement | Data Change |
|---|---|---|
Parents work with child work | O | O (Status updated for parent only) |
Moved to a different parent work in the hierarchy | O | X |
Assignee Group
Condition | Work Movement | Data Change |
|---|---|---|
Parents work with their child work | O | O (Assignee updated for parent only) |
Non-group ↔ Assignee group | O | O (Assignee added or removed for parent only) |
Moved to a different parent work in the hierarchy | O | X |
